Before making my big permanent southerly move came a most memorable experience: a contract job in Phoenix with good pay and all expenses paid. At first the job involved staying at the Downtown Hyatt with weekky flights to and from Portland. This went on for 17 weeks and a few of the flights were with company execs on a luxurious suede interior 10-passenger Lear jet.
During this time I had time to shape up my novel that now had a title: SWEET COMPULSIONS, A Wry Tale of Music, Multiculture and Mayhem.(Click on title at left for graphic scenes.)
Then it was on to funky Ocean Beach in sunny San Diego and many jobs, apartments, experiences and photos ...
Capturing sunsets like this from my deck was a piece of cake.
But the OB pier, now that was something else. This was my first try nearly 20 years ago and I've never topped it!
Why do I and 2 million others like this place?
Oh so many reasons but mostly it's the weather
and all the wonderful San Diego sights ...
Balboa Park
Skyline vistas
Gnarled beach outlooks
Seagulls in formation
As you may have heard, San Diego is expensive. You can build a lovely lifestyle only if you can afford the cost of living. That's why since arriving in 1990 I've lived in 10 different apartments in 8 complexes. And why I sometimes imagine opting out in retirement. But where would I go? I MUST have sun, breezes, ocean, music, arts, culture, good food. But I don't do well with humidity or narrow minds. Hmmm ... what about the CARIBBEAN?
